Christmas Tree Growers Gathering

The Massachusetts Christmas Tree Association will hold a Growers Gathering at the Davagian Tree Farm in Sutton on July 22^nd from 9 am to noon.

For some time now, the Davagians have wanted to host a meeting where growers can informally gather and share their accumulated knowledge about growing Christmas trees. At a recent Board of Directors meeting they presented this idea and chose a Saturday date to allow more time for discussion and sharing of ideas.

This first “Growers’ Gathering” will not be a formal program… it’s a chance for everyone to give and receive information, and to share and discuss ideas and methods. By holding it in July as opposed to June, there will be trees to shear – a great topic to start with. If you would like to demonstrate your method, bring your preferred tools and the Davagians will provide the trees! Dave Radebaugh will give a lesson on how to calibrate a backpack sprayer. Any other topics of interest can be brought up and discussed, such as planting, fertilizing and insect control. Bring your questions, thoughts, problems, and solutions that have worked for you.

Casey Vandervalk had the idea of adding a Tree Growers Flea Market to the day’s activities, so bring tools and equipment (photos if the item is too large to easily transport) that you no longer use – you never know, someone else just might have a use for it.

Coffee and goodies will be provided in the morning, and there will be lunch available at the close of the gathering.
