The Alliance for Green Heat and the Biomass Thermal Energy Council are sponsoring a webinar to support the Alliance’s 4th Wood Stove Competition that will focus on automation and electricity generation. This first webinar will be 11am (EST), May 18, 2017 and the topic will be an introduction to thermoelectric generators and how they can be used to generate electricity from wood stoves. The speaker will be Gerard Campeau, President, Thermal Electronics Corporation.

Gerard Campeau’s company has demonstrated that a 100 watt TEG assembly requires one twentieth of the space required for an equivalent solar array. As well, the output is up to 24 hours per day while a wood stove is in operation. So, actual winter time TEG power output, combined with battery storage, could substantial augment winter time solar PV output when solar radiation is limited to 3 hours per day.

A subsequent webinar series will focus on various technical and policy issues related to the automation of wood and pellet stoves with sensors and WIFI enabled controls, and the development of thermoelectric wood stoves to power lights, cell phones, and automated controls. There will also be webinars on how thermoelectric wood stoves could be integrated with residential solar PV systems to recharge home battery systems like the TESLA Powerwall.
