The Massachusetts Land Conservation Conference will hold a Family Forest Carbon Program webinar on Wednesday, March 15th from 2 – 3 pm featuring speakers from the American Forest Foundation and The Nature Conservancy

The Family Forest Carbon Program, sponsored by AFF and TNC, enables family forest owners in parts of Massachusetts to access climate finance from carbon markets with the goal of increasing the adoption of climate smart forestry practices to grow more resilient forests, conserve biodiversity, add value to timber stands, and mitigate climate impacts.

This program provides landowners who are interested in managing their forests — when carbon is one of their top values — technical assistance and annual payments if they commit to either delaying harvest, or doing climate-smart forest harvests, for 20 years.

This webinar will cover the basics of carbon markets, explain how the program works and its current status, how landowners enroll, what benefits they receive, and how the Verra- approved carbon accounting methodology works. They will also discuss how the program interacts with Current Use.
