The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation will hold an Oak Diseases of Concern in the Eastern U.S. webinar on Wednesday, April 29th from 9 to 10 am.

Oak species in the eastern U.S. are host to many pests and pathogens throughout their ranges.

This webinar will present information on two pathogens of recent regional concern: Diplodia corticola and oak wilt (Bretziella fagacearum).

D. corticola (Dc), an emerging canker pathogen, has been implicated in causing dieback and mortality of oak species in Europe and in several regions in the United States. The first part of this webinar summarizes a Mid-Atlantic case study on the nativity of Dc and sheds light on its contribution to oak decline in the United States.

The second half of the webinar will discuss oak wilt, and the steps New York is taking to identify and manage the disease and provide outreach to the public.

Presenters will include Savannah Ferreira, Forest Health Specialist, Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation, and Rob Cole, Forester, NYS DEC Division of Lands and Forests.
