Sustainable Heating Outreach & Education will hold a one-day Pellet Boiler Boot Camp taught by John Siegenthaler at the Olver Design Building at UMass – Amherst on September 28th from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.

The Pellet Boiler Boot Camp is a single-day “deep dive” into the operating characteristics of modern pellet-fueled boilers, and how to seamlessly integrate them into both retrofit and new construction applications.

The instruction is filled with real-world lessons learned and situations to avoid—essential knowledge for architects, builders, engineers, heating professionals, and facility managers who are ready to ditch fossil fuel heating. This is advanced material which is complementary to the boiler manufacturers’ training.

Topics covered include:

• Wood pellet boiler operating characteristics
• Fuel cost comparisons
• Fuel storage and conveyance options
• Boiler room layout considerations
• Combustion air supply and venting systems
• Thermal storage and piping options for thermal storage
• Integration of existing or auxiliary heat sources
• Unique control strategies and hardware
• Low temperature heat emitters
• Important lessons learned and situations to avoid
• Several complete system templates.

In addition:

Mass. DOER’s Jonathan Parrot will take us through the state’s Alternative Portfolio Standards (APS). Learn how the Commonwealth’s Global Warming Solutions Act can reduce your customer’s heating cost through Alternative Energy Credits (AECs).

Jeff Rubin, executive director at Sustainable Heating Outreach & Education, will share specific tools attendees can use to speak authoritatively with their customers about why pellet boilers matter to climate change, sustainable forests, local jobs, and our regional economy.

This Course qualifies for continuing education credits from:
The American Institute of Architects (AIA)
The Building Performance Institute (BPI), and
MA Construction Supervisor License (CSL Education Topic: Energy)
