Climatic shifts are affecting forest habitats all across the U.S., challenging how we fulfill our mission of conserving, protecting, and enhancing wildlife habitat. Warming winters, extreme precipitation events, drought and catastrophic wildfire, and other elements affect pollinators, game species, bats, fish, birds, and the people that steward their habitats. Ecosystem management and community-building are part of the solution to addressing these challenges.
The U S Fish & Wildlife Service and the Northern Forests Climate Hub will hold a Resilient Forested Wetlands for Wildlife webinar on May 20th from Noon to 1:30 pm EDT.
This exciting panel will discuss management of wetland forest habitat in a changing world. We’ll explore the interactions between natural disturbances and habitat features, as well as the silvicultural practices that help us emulate these dynamics. The panel will also identify challenges such as insects and disease, altered hydrology, and larger issues that affect the ecological integrity of these important forest habitats.
The panelists are:
Jeff Denman, The Denman Co. Consulting Forestry in Arkansas.
Duck Locascio, Forestry Program Manager, Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries
Dr. Tim Evans, Director of Land Conservation, Audubon S.C.
Christie Nichols, Asst. Field Manager, Bureau of Land Management, NW Oregon Field Office
