Looking for something to do on Black Friday that doesn’t involve shopping or malls?

The Pioneer Valley Fern Society will hold a free Tree & Winter Fern Hike on Mt. Toby in Sunderland on Friday, November 29th from 1 to 3 pm.

The hike will visit the woods of Mt. Toby, hiking part of the Robert Frost Trail to the famous Sunderland Caves. Along the way we will be identifying trees, shrubs and winter ferns.. Ferns include Evergreen & Marginal Wood Ferns, Christmas fern, polypody, and Maidenhair Spleenwort.

It will be a two mile hike on moderate terrain requiring sturdy shoes.  In event of bad weather, the hike will be cancelled.

 

Meet at the trailhead parking area on Reservation Rd in Sunderland. To get there from Sunderland Center follow Rt 47 north to the Montague town line. Just after the town line sign, turn right onto Reservation Rd. The gate, trailhead parking area and kiosk are 1/2 mile on the right.
