Yale Forest Forum will hold a speaker series on The Future of Forest Products in a Changing Climate: Bioenergy from Forests on Tuesdays from February 1st to April 19th from 11:30 am to 12:10 pm EST.
Energy generated from combustion of wood, wood wastes or biofuels derived from wood, called forest bioenergy, is called by some a promising renewable energy source. Others raise concerns about possible negative environmental and health impacts and possible increases in green-house gas emissions.
The Biden Administration’s emphasis on climate change has brought renewed interest in a full suite of energy technology and natural climate solutions, including biomass energy from hazardous fuels and managed forest systems. Some consider bioenergy from forests an important component in the transition away from fossil fuels while cutting greenhouse emissions. To others, efforts to scale up bioenergy from forests raises concerns about natural resource demands and larger sustainability priorities.
The webinars will bring in a wide range of experts to discuss the future role of bioenergy from forests in addressing climate challenges.
On February 8th, Annie Levasseur from the Ecole de Technolgie Superieure, will discuss The Industrial Ecology of Bioenergy from Forests.
