Have you ever wanted to learn more about timber harvests? Here’s your chance!
The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests,, UNH Extension and consulting foresters will hold a free hiking tour of an active timber harvest on the Stearns-Lamont Forest in Rindge, NH, from 10 am to 1 pm on February 12th.
Foresters and SPNHF staff will discuss the history of the property, the planning that goes into a timber harvest, why certain trees are selected to cut, and how the forest will respond in the future. Additional discussions will include timber markets, picking the right machinery for the job, and considerations for recreational trails, hydrology, and wildlife habitat.
This field trip is oriented toward adults and dogs are not allowed on our field trips.
BRING: Attendees should be prepared for winter conditions and snowy or icy uneven terrain.
