The Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science will hold a Natural Disturbance-Based Silvicultural Strategies, Adaptation, and Wildlife Outcomes webinar on September 20th at 1 pm EDT.

This webinar is part of a 12-part monthly Climate Adaptation for Forest-Dependent Wildlife Webinar Series being held by NIACS, the U S Fish & Wildlife Service, and the US Forest Service on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 1 to 2 pm ET. The series will explore forest ecosystems and their composition and structure under a changing climate, and the influence on wildlife populations and carbon dynamics.  The series will also share tools and management approaches to help facilitate forest and wildlife climate adaptation at both landscape and stand scales.

The September 20th webinar will be presented by Tony D’Amato of the University of Vermont.

The webinar will discuss:

  • Effects of climate on forests and how disturbance shapes habitat through impacts on forest composition and structure.
  • Natural disturbance based silvicultural strategies and how that aligns with adaptation, and wildlife outcomes
  • Ecological silvicultural systems
