Glyphosate is one of the most commonly used forestry herbicides for the control of undesired plants. It is relatively inexpensive, and its broad spectrum of control makes it useful for many species.

However, there is much confusion surrounding glyphosate (the active ingredient in herbicides like “Roundup” and other weed control formulations) with respect to its potential to cause adverse health effects including cancer.

Cornell Extension will hold two one-hour Forest Connect webinars on Assessing Pesticide Hazard and Risk: Glyphosate, a Case Study on July 19th at noon and 7 pm

These presentations by Dan Wixted from Cornell’s Pesticide Management Education Program, aims to clarify the issue by looking at pesticide hazard and risk assessment and how the pesticide registration process mitigates risk.

If time allows, there will be a brief discussion on alternatives to glyphosate.
