Estimating grade, scale, and value on the stump can be helpful when you’re turning the standing tree into product in the woods or on the landing.

UNH Extension will hold a Hardwood Log Grading, Scaling & Estimating on the Stump workshop at the Grafton County Extension office in North Haverhill, NH on October 24th from 8:30 am to 3 pm.

This workshop will trace this process backward from a hardwood log yard to the trees standing in the forest.

Join natural resource specialists Jim Frohn and Ray Berthiaume to learn about what constitutes defects in hardwood logs and how to scale those logs.

In the woods we will estimate the number, length, and grade of logs while looking at the tree on the stump.

The desired outcome of this workshop is the ability to recognize potential hardwood saw logs based on species, size, and condition, prior to beginning a harvest operation.

Cost of this workshop is $75 for NHTOA members, $125 for non-members.
