Silvopasture is an agroforestry practice that integrates trees or woody shrubs with livestock grazing and forage production in a managed system. This approach combines elements of forestry, agriculture, and animal husbandry to optimize land use efficiency, enhance biodiversity, and improve overall farm productivity
UNH Extension will hold a Silvopasture Twilight Meeting at the UNH Organic Dairy Research Farm at Burley-Demeritt in Lee, NH on June 30th from 4 to 5:30 pm.
Participants will tour UNH’s silvopasture located on the Organic Dairy Farm where we will discuss recent harvesting to expand the silvopasture and establish forage.
UNH Extension, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and UNH Woodlands staff will be on hand to talk the process of establishing a silvopasture, equipment used during this process, and issues to consider when deciding to develop a silvopasture.
This meeting will also provide time to discuss UNH’s Adaptive Agroforestry Principles & Teaching (ADAPT) program focusing on research and outreach in New England on agroforestry practices such as silvopastures.
