The Native Plant Trust will hold a Fire Ecology 101 virtual class on October 7th from 6 to 7:30 pm.

Given the increasing prevalence of wildfire activity in the United States and in our own region, many of us have learned to respond to fire with fear. Yet fire can be a driver of diverse (and in some cases rare) ecosystems and prescribed fire is one of the most powerful tools for managing wildfires!

This virtual class taught by Dan Jaffe Wilder from the Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary will explore the basics of fire ecology, the history of fire in the Northeast, the effects of fire suppression, and more.

This class is geared toward all learners and can be taken on its own, and is a prerequisite for the Chapin and Memorial Forest field studies.

Cost of this program is $30.
