Prescribed fire is a crucially important management tool for oaks.
In the eastern United States, oaks are abundant and provide significant economic and ecological benefits. However, oak ecosystems have experienced significant changes over the past century due to fire exclusion by suppression, land-use changes, pests, and pathogens. These pressures threaten the long-term sustainability of oak-dominated systems. Research-informed management efforts are critical now, more than ever.
The USDA Forest Service will hold a Fire Management and Silviculture in Oak Ecosystems.webinar on October 16th from 10 to 11 am ET.
Presenters will discuss prescribed fire as well as the importance of mechanical treatments. This webinar will feature land managers and researchers.
Speakers include
- Lauren Pile-Knapp: USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station
- Jason Rodrigue: USDA Forest Service Region 8
