As the sun sets over King Farm, discover the hidden world of Vermont’s bats and the forests they depend on.
Vermont Land Trust & Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park will hold a Bats, Forest & Vernal Pools Exploration at King Farm in Woodstock, VT from 6 to 8 pm EDT.
In this program graduate researcher Jessica Jones of Dartmouth College will explore how forest management, vernal pools, and healthy ecosystems support one of our most important (and misunderstood) groups of wildlife.
We’ll begin with a walk to research monitoring sites, where you’ll learn how scientists study bat activity using acoustic recording equipment and insect sampling. Along the way, we’ll discuss why vernal pools and surrounding forests provide critical foraging habitat, how forestry practices can influence bat populations, and what ongoing research is revealing about these fascinating creatures.
Whether you’re curious about wildlife, interested in forest ecology, or simply looking for a memorable summer evening outdoors, this program offers a unique opportunity to experience Vermont’s nocturnal landscape through the lens of cutting-edge conservation research.
To take part in this program, register at Bats, Forests, and Vernal Pools: An Evening at King Farm Tickets, Wednesday, August 26 • 6 PM – 8 PM | Eventbrite
