NELMA’s Standard Grading Rules for northeast timber provides the details of allowable characteristics within each grade. NELMA Director of Inspection Services, Matt Pomeroy, will provide expertise for this workshop that will include classroom instructions in addition to hands-on review of the grades with examples of finished lumber.

Workshop attendees will learn the basics of evaluating the major characteristics important to grading structural lumber such as measuring knots for cross section displacement, shakes, splits, and slope of grain. The grades of Select Structural, No.1, No.2 and Stud will be the focus.
