Froling Energy will hold a series of weekly one hour Biomass Energy Webinars on Thursdays between February 25th and March 25th discussing different aspects of using biomass to provide reliable, cost effective heat.

The first webinar in the series, The New Hampshire Advantage: Thermal RECs will be held on February 25th at 3 p.m.

Thermal Renewable Energy Certificates (T-RECs) have helped transform the biomass heating market in New Hampshire—the first state in the nation to establish T-RECs as part of their Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS).

With T-RECs, system owners are paid for offsetting the use of fossil fuels with wood chips, wood pellets or other bio-fuels. As a result they can reduce their annual (Biomass) heating fuel costs by between 30% and 70%.

In New Hampshire, for every net Megawatt of heat generated by biomass, a system owner gets one Class 1 NH Thermal REC. Then each T-REC can be sold to a Utility Company for about $20 (average during the past few years).

The program was established in 2012 and it has been very successful—generating more than an estimated $1.6 million each year for biomass system owners.

However, right now NH Legislators are considering HB213, a bill that would eliminate any new T-REC generators.

Maine, Massachusetts and other states have established T-RECs in their RPS.

Learn all about T-RECs and how you can help to keep them active in New Hampshire. in this webinar.
