Family Forest Carbon Program

The Family Forest Carbon Program (FFCP) will hold three-hour online Forester Training workshops on February 7th and 8th to train foresters in the management practices funded by the program. Completing either of the workshops will qualify foresters for the program.

The Family Forest Carbon Program, developed by the American Forest Foundation and The Nature Conservancy, partners with family forest landowners to manage their woodlands in ways that improve forest health and increase carbon sequestration and storage, while balancing other important benefits from our forests and earning income.

Under this program, which began enrolling landowners in western & central Massachusetts, Vermont and eastern New York in July, landowners can get technical assistance and annual payments if they commit to either doing climate-smart harvests to increase carbon storage, or delay harvests entirely for 20 years.

The February workshops will provide training for interested foresters about the program’s requirements for land enrollment and opportunities to become an Approved or Participating Forester.

Foresters can attend either of the two free training sessions.  Sessions will be held on:

Tuesday, February 7, 2023, Noon – 3 pm ET or  Wednesday, February 8, 2023, 3 pm – 6 pm ET

Each training will include:

  • Overview of the FFCP • Scientific methodology
  • Land eligibility requirements
  • Management practices: Grow Older Forests or Enhance Your Woodlands
  • Roles of Approved and Participating Foresters

Forester Licensing Continuing Education Credits will be Available.
