The Massachusetts Christmas Tree Association will hold a Growers Gathering at John & Teresa Coward’s Farm in Southwick on Saturday, June 23rd, from 8 am to 2:30 pm
Coward Farms is a diversified farming operation with 45,000 trees growing Fraser, Canaan, Blue Spruce, and Concolor. The Coward’s added a gift barn and wreath making shop in 2007 where they currently make about 1000 wreaths per year. They also make kissing balls, swags, garland and arrangements. The farm’s total acreage is just over 100.
Besides Christmas trees the farm also grows spring bedding plants, hanging baskets, vegetables, herbs and containers for spring. Broadleaf tobacco, fall mums, and pumpkins keep them busy for the remainder of the year.
The June 23rd gathering will feature the Tree Grower’s Flea Market, an introduction to the Coward Farm, and presentations on Elongated scale and phytophthera and training on calibrating and using a backpack sprayer.
