UNH Extension will hold a Clearcuts, Regeneration, and Wildlife Habitat workshop at the Mourning Dove property in Groton, NH on June 17th from 2 to 5 pm
UNH Cooperative Extension Grafton County Forester Jim Frohn, UNH Cooperative Extension Wildlife Habitat State Specialist Matt Tarr, and consulting forester Jon Martin of Martin Forestry will lead a tour and discussion of a silvicultural clearcut.
They will examine the area for regeneration and wildlife habitat that has developed since the harvest was completed in 2016 and will see which species of wildlife are using the site today.
They will discuss why the clearcut was done, pros and cons of clearcutting, and implications for forest regeneration and wildlife habitat.
Participants should come prepared for walking in moderate to rocky terrain and dense growth and dress for the weather. Water and insect repellent are recommended. Ticks, black flies, mosquitoes and other insects will likely be encountered.
