Climate Forestry is a Massachusetts DCR program providing cost-share assistance to landowners to hire a qualified consulting forester to conduct a climate-focused forest  assessment on their land.

DCR will host a 4 – part virtual Climate Forestry Stewardship Planning Training for Foresters series on Wednesday afternoons from in February and March, in partnership with Mass Audubon, the Northern Institute for Applied Climate Science (NIACS), the New England Forestry Foundation (NEFF), and the Mass Woodlands Institute (MWI).

The Climate Forestry Stewardship Planning Training for Foresters, consists of four (4) virtual sessions in 2023 (with homework of approximately 1 hour for the first three sessions) from 3 to 4:30 pm EST on February 15th, February 22nd, March 1st, and March 8th.

Attendance at all four (4) sessions and one (1) field session is a requirement to be eligible for the Climate Forester qualification.  The field session date(s) and location(s) will be provided at the virtual training.

To become qualified to provide this service to landowners, consulting foresters must attend this training series, one field session, and then conduct two climate assessments under the review of NIACS/Mass Audubon and DCR.

Participating foresters should consider having a property selected for which they are currently working on a Forest Stewardship Plan or select an existing plan that they would like to revise with a climate/carbon focus.
