Climatic shifts are affecting forest habitats all across the U.S., challenging how we fulfill our mission of conserving, protecting, and enhancing wildlife habitat. Warming winters, extreme precipitation events, drought and catastrophic wildfire, and other elements affect pollinators, game species, bats, fish, birds, and the people that steward their habitats. Ecosystem management and community-building are part of the solution to addressing these challenges.

The U S Fish & Wildlife Service and the Northern Forests Climate Hub will hold a Coexistence of Public Use, Recreation, and Management in Forested Habitats webinar on August 19th from Noon to 1:30 pm EDT.

We invite you to join a well-rounded panel for a discussion on public use and recreation in changing forests. We will explore the challenges in managing forests for multiple public uses on federal, state and private lands in a dynamic environment. The panelists come from a range of disciplines, educational institutions, and agencies.

The Panelists are:

Danielle Shannon (Adaptation Specialist, NIACS & Michigan Tech. University)

Ethan Tapper (Forester & Author of How to Love a Forest)

Kathryn Wrigley (Recreation Specialist, Vermont Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation)

Alison Adams (Director, Forest Ecosystem Monitoring Cooperative, University of Vermont)

Sean Flint (Wildlife Biologist & Acting Refuge Manager, Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Errol, New Hampshire)
