The Massachusetts Dynamic Forest Restoration Initiative (MADFRI) is a collaboration of organizations to enhance forest resiliency, restore fish and wildlife habitat diversity, control invasive species through forest habitat restoration on public and private lands in north central Massachusetts and the Berkshire Highlands region.
The Dynamic Forest Restoration Initiative will hold a free Dynamic Forest Walk on Franklin Land Trust’s Guyette Farm in Plainfield on Saturday, May 31st, from 10 am to 1 pm.
The Guyette Farm on Gloyd Street in Plainfield includes a diverse set of plant communities and landscape types which benefit from thoughtful active management by Franklin Land Trust stewardship staff. The property includes large old hemlock and pine, mature oaks and maples, as well as young forest on old field sites that provide berries and browse for people and wildlife alike. There are also poplar stands which are rare in this region, and are important to songbirds and many types of wildlife.
At this event Franklin Land Trust staff will be joined by personnel from MA Department of Conservation and Recreation, Ruffed Grouse Society, MassWildlife and USDA Natural Resource Conservation Services to provide information about land stewardship technical support and cost share programs available in our region.
Participants should dress for the weather and take precautions against ticks.
