Slash walls are a new experimental forestry practice that uses logging slash from timber harvests to erect enclosures to keep deer from devouring hardwood seedlings before they grow out of deers’ reach.

Opacum Land Trust and the MassConn Sustainable Forest Partnership will hold an Exploring Slash Walls walk at the Moorehead Woodlot in Putnam, CT on Saturday, May 9th from 9 to 11 am.

On this tour, participants will visit a 7 acre area enclosed by slash walls built to create early successional forest for bird habitat.

Trails to the slash walls are wide and not too steep but be sure to wear supportive shoes/boots or sneakers.

To take part in this tour, register at Opacum Land Trust · Woodland Ambassadors Walk at Moorehead Woodlot
