As spring arrives, a special habitat is emerging in our woodlands: vernal pools! These seasonal wetlands provide breeding habitat to many animals, like frogs, salamanders, and crustaceans.
Kestrel Land Trust will hold a Exploring the Vernal Pool at Gloutak Woods program at Gloutak Woods in Holyoke on Saturday, April 11th from 9 to 11 am.
This program will be led by Laurel Carpenter, Environmental Science Professor and Chair at Holyoke Community College. She will be joined by some of her students who are participating in environmental science research projects.
We’ll bring equipment for gathering and viewing up close what we find, like salamander eggs, tadpoles, and fairy shrimp. A great family event to learn about vernal pools before they vanish!
To take part in this program, register at Exploring the Vernal Pool at Gloutak Woods – Kestrel Land Trust
