UNH Extension will hold a Spring Wildlife Habitat Workshop on Field Mowing, Shrubland Management, and Wildlife Food Plots on Thursday, May 27th from 3 to 5:30 pm at the Norman Brown Property in Jefferson, NH.

The Spring Wildlife Habitat series of field-based workshops is for landowners, conservation commission members, natural resources professionals, and anyone else interested in learning how to identify forest, field, and wetland wildlife habitats and approaches for maintaining or enhancing those habitats to benefit specific wildlife species.

Each workshop will occur entirely in the field. Workshop participants are encouraged to watch the recorded presentation Introduction to Wildlife Habitat Assessment and Management prior to attending any of these workshops; we will be applying the information discussed in that presentation during each workshop.

Join Matt Tarr, Extension’s State Wildlife Specialist, Brendan Prusik, Extension’s Coos County Forester and Jake DeBow, Wildlife Biologist with NH Fish & Game for a field mowing and shrubland management for wildlife workshop on the property of Norman Brown.

Topics will include:

  • How to establish a forestry mowing rotation for young forest wildlife within a 20-year-old regenerating clearcut.
  • How to set up a field mowing rotation to attract deer and to improve habitat for the greatest diversity of vertebrate and invertebrate wildlife.
  • Options for creating and maintaining wildlife food plots.
  • Registration is limited and required for each workshop.  To register, email Matt Tarr at matt.tarr@unh.edu
