Vermont Woodlands Association and Vermont Audubon will hold a Forest Birds & Woodland Stewardship Tour at Black Hills Timber, LLC in Greensboro, VT on June 20th from 10 am to 3 pm.

Please join VWA for a tour of Black Hills Timber, LLC’s 1927-acre Tree Farm. Audubon Vermont and VWA staff, along with property owner and consulting forester Rich “Carbo” Carbonetti will provide a tour of the 60+ years of forest management on the property while also highlighting a wide diversity of bird habitats.

This mature and well-stocked forest offers a view of how forestry and wildlife habitat management can be integrated successfully.

In addition to the forestry and bird habitat, the property has a long and interesting history of lumbering to support Slab City at the outlet of Shadow Lake., The Greensboro portion of the property was also the summer home of American conservationist and well-known author Wallace Stegner from the late 1930’s to the early 1970s. The Black Hills Timber tract is centered in a block of permanently conserved land totaling over 4,000 acres.

The tour will take place on a portion of the property’s 22 miles of hiking trails. We will hike +/- 3.5 miles through a variety of northern hardwood, mixed woods, spruce-fir and cedar forest types. Shorter walk options are available as well. Bathroom facilities are available on site. This walk is free, CEUs are pending approval.
