DCR will hold a Forests, Climate, and Innovations Forum on Thursday, March 21st at UMass Amherst’s mass timber Olver Design Building, from 8:30 am – 3:15 pm.

This inaugural event brings together current and future forest owners, forestry professionals, business leaders, educators, and policy-makers to delve into crucial discussions surrounding forests, climate change, and innovations within the forest and forestry industry.

Forests are not only integral to the Commonwealth’s identity but also play a pivotal role in mitigating climate change. The Healey-Driscoll Administration’s Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA), along with the Departments of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and Department of Fish and Game (DFG), are actively creating programs, guidelines, and best practices to assist all landowners in achieving their forest management goals.

The Forum will feature speakers and workshops focused on how Massachusetts forest landowners and forest-based businesses can meet the growing demand for wood products in economically and environmentally sustainable ways. There will be a keynote address from Tom Bodett, an author and regular on NPR (best known for his Motel 6 “We’ll Leave the Light On For You” commercials) who also founded HatchSpace, a community woodworking shop in Brattleboro, Vermont. There will be workshops aimed at forest landowners, forestry professionals, and students – click here to view the agenda.

The cost for the Forum which includes the full day of speakers, workshops, exhibitors, and a provided lunch, is expected to be $25. Registration for the event will open soon on the Forum website.
