UNH Extension will hold two Fundamentals of Forestry workshops for loggers, one on April 20th at Fox State Forest in Hillsborough and another on April 22nd at Kennebec Lumber in Wentworth.
These workshops will give loggers a better understanding of forest management and appropriate applications of silviculture.
Course content includes discussion/PowerPoints on historical events influencing forests, current status of New Hampshire forests, Silvicultural principles of New England, Forest types, landowner goals and objectives, tree growth/maturity/vigor, forest regeneration, wildlife habitat, harvesting systems, and loggers’ function in silviculture.
Field sessions will focus on forest management on a tract recently harvested at Fox Forest on April 20 and will include a tour of Kennebec Lumber on April 22.
Bring your own lunch and plenty of water.
