Mass DCR will hold a Getting Started with Small-Scale Silvopasture-Raised Poultry:
Costs, Considerations, and Realities workshop at Sylvan Acres LLC in Hopkinton, MA on Sunday June 28th from 9 to 11 am.
This workshop is for anyone interested in the real work behind integrating poultry, pasture, and trees on a small farm.
Maria and Maxim of Sylvan Acres will share what they are learning as they build a diversified farm while balancing full-time work, family life, animal care, finances, and daily management.
The focus will be on their poultry operation, including heritage broilers, layers, and Muscovy ducks, with discussion around:
Setup
Labor
Costs
Biosecurity
Day-to-day realities
Lessons learned from the field
This is not a theory-only workshop. It is a chance to see what small-scale silvopasture-raised poultry looks like in practice, the opportunities, the tradeoffs, and the realities.
This is a rain-or-shine event and space is limited. Light refreshments will be provided courtesy of the MA Service Forestry Program.
Participants should wear clean, non-farm clothing and footwear. Disposable booties will be available for anyone who keeps poultry at home.
