Logging contractors require basic mapping skills for operations planning and permitting. There are many tools and approaches that are effective. Fundamentally, there are a few steps: data collection, creating files and developing maps.

UNH Extension will hold a GIS Mapping: Basic Data Collection and Mapping for Loggers and Foresters (and forest landowners) Workshop on Tuesday, April 11th from 9 am to 3 pm at New Hampshire Fish & Game in Concord, NH

This program taught by Shane Bradt from UNH, introduces participants to the basics of data collection with a smartphone and handheld GPS device, as well as the process of getting data transferred to a couple of different mapping software options, with a focus on Avenza mapping.

Participants will engage in a wetland notification scenario and address SFI forests with exceptional conservation value criteria.

What to bring:

Please bring your hand held devices and download the free version of Avenza on your iPhone or Android at https://store.avenza.com/pages/pricing

We will have 12 laptops available preloaded with what you’ll need for the workshop, but please bring your own if you have one.

Bring your own lunch.

Cost of this workshop is $75 for NHTOA member,  $125 for non-members
