Over the past century, wood stoves have undergone several technology improvements but the most important one is largely absent: sensors and electronics. Secondary air tubes and/or catalysts are now part of every wood stove in response to EPA regulations that came into force in 1990. Nearly 50 years later, regulators are still trying to marginally drive down allowable emission levels in test labs that have little relevance in homes.
The Alliance for Green Heat will hold a Harnessing Electronics for Cleaner Wood Heating webinar on June 3rd from Noon to 1:30 pm EDT
Electronics in wood stoves – and pellet stoves – may be the only hope that these appliances will see another advance in technology. The next advance needs to address how appliances work in the hands of consumer and electronics can adjust the air-to-fuel ratio minute-by-minute based on the quality and moisture content of the wood or pellets, the installation of the stove, the altitude and other factors
Presentations in the webinar will include:
Designing for Variability: Why Electronics Are Essential for Modern Wood Heating — Ken Davis, Sherwood Industries
Wood Heat’s Future Depends on Automation — Paul LaPorte, Fire MAPS
Revolutionizing the Way We Burn Wood, — Hugh Wells, Charnwood Stoves
