Invasive plants such as barberry, buckthorn, bittersweet and multiflora rose have become a major problem in the Northeast for the management and enjoyment of productive woodlands.
Cornell Cooperative Extension will hold two one-hour Forest Connect webinars on Identifying & Controlling Invasive Plants on Forestland on July 17th at noon and 7 p.m.
This presentation by David Jackson from Penn State Extension, covers the effects of invasive plants and the characteristics which make them so successful. Common invasive plant species are described for identification purposes.
In addition, the presentation will discuss distribution, site preferences, dispersal methods, and control measures for each plant.
The key principles for controlling grasses, vines, shrubs, and trees will be examined as each requires slightly different measures. An integrated approach to control will be provided for each with a focus on herbicides and their application.
