UNH Extension and the New Hampshire Division of Forests & Lands will hold two all day Low-Density White Pine Management workshops on September 16th & 17th at Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown, NH.

Eastern white pine is one of the most abundant and highest-valued species in New England. The health of the species and declining abundance of regeneration is a concern for landowners and forest managers. These workshops on September 16th or 17th will include a field tour of Bear Brook State Park with experts discussing white pine management, forest health, and specifically low-density management.

These workshops provide an opportunity to hear from managing foresters from the NH Division of Forests & Lands and discuss their silvicultural trials in low-density white pine management. The low-density management discussion will also include perspectives from forest health experts, wildlife biologists, and others. Tom Addington from Addington Equipment, Inc. will be onsite to demonstrate his mini feller-buncher in a TSI and low-density harvest at Bear Brook.

Each tour will be in the field visiting sites at Bear Brook including an overstory removal, TSI demonstration, crop tree release, and multiple entry low-density trial plots.  These workshops are offered twice to accommodate expected crowd size.

We will be completely in the field for the day so please be prepared—especially for ticks.

This event will be held completely outdoors. Please come prepared to spend the day in the field. Bring your own lunch. Facilities will be available on Depot Rd (parking area).
