Vermont Land Trust is partnering with the University of Vermont and our neighboring landowner, The Nature Conservancy, to host a research experiment at Mud Pond Forest in Greensboro. This project is exploring effective ways to manage our forests with a changing climate, while also achieving other goals, including biodiversity conservation and establishing old forest characteristics.  We can help our forests stay healthy and productive while continuing to provide all the benefits we depend upon.

VLT will hold a Managing Forests in a Changing Climate tour at Mud Pond Forest on May 24th from 9 am to noon.

The tour will visit a recently completed timber harvest and discuss the strategies used to improve forest health, climate change resilience, timber production, habitat, and how we could develop some of the desired characteristics of old forests. We will learn how to recognize an old forest, what the desired characteristics are, and how to choose the best approach for achieving those characteristics.
