University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension will hold a Managing Town Forests for Timber, Wildlife, & Recreation workshop at the Fremont town forest on Friday, June 7th from 1 to 4 p.m.

Town-owned conservation lands are for people – places to come together and build community, learn about stewardship of the natural world, and recreate alone or in groups. Town lands protect valuable natural resources – water and wildlife habitat. They can bring income to a town through responsible timber management. Balancing all these interests can be a challenge, but many towns in New Hampshire have had great stories to share in how they manage their town forests.

This field-based workshop will show how the town of Fremont has managed their town forest.

This workshop is aimed at Conservation Commissioners, Town Forest Committee Members, and other town volunteers, but anyone interested in learning about managing land for multiple interests are welcome to attend.

The entire workshop will be spent outdoors rain or shine. Please dress accordingly and bring water and snack if desired.

This workshop is free but preregistration is required.  To register, see https://extension.unh.edu/events/managing-town-forests-timber-wildlife-recreation-0

Directions:

Take Route 107 to Copp Drive, which goes off the north side of Route 107. A sign for Evergreen Estates marks the entrance to Copp Drive, however the sign is difficult to see because of the trees and shrubs surrounding it.

Turn onto Copp Drive, proceed about one mile and turn left onto Andreski Drive. Glen Oakes is located at the end of the road.

There is ample parking in the unpaved area at the end of the road and near the entrance to Glen Oakes.
