Spectacular Use of Wood at UMass Design Building

As project design teams consider using cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels as floor, roof, or wall framing, structural design questions frequently arise, especially for designers new to mass timber products.

Wood Works will hold a Practical Lessons for Structural Analysis and Design of Cross-Laminated Timber webinar on December 7th from 1 to 2:30 pm EST.

This presentation by WoodWorks Scott Breneman provides specific design guidance on how to address common scenarios in structural analysis and design for CLT.

Attendees will learn about necessary design checks for floor and roof applications, including strength and short-term and long-term deflection checks under gravity loading, and how to calculate structural fire-resistance ratings of horizontal CLT assemblies.

Particular attention will be given to the engineering implications of using multi-span CLT panels and resulting modifications to the single-span design conditions. A detailed explanation of different methods of determining horizontal diaphragm deflections will also be presented.
