Silvopasture is a land management practice that combines trees with livestock and forage (pasture / hay) production on the same footprint. The forest is thinned enough to improve or add forage for livestock while the trees are managed for timber or other forest products.
UNH Extension will hold a Silvopasture Twilight Tour at Winnicut River Farm in Stratham, New Hampshire on September 15th from 4 to 5:30 pm
At this tour, we’ll discuss the process and work needed to transition a forest into a silvopasture. Roughly 25 acres has been harvested at the farm and this tour will provide a good sense of a “work in progress” for establishing a productive silvopasture. UNH Extension and Natural Resources Conservation Service staff will be on hand to guide the discussion.
