Are you preparing to plant, nurture, and maintain an American chestnut orchard? Or maybe you’re curious about the process and want to learn more?

The American Chestnut Foundation will hold a Site Selection & Planting American Chestnut webinar on May 21st from 11:30 am to 1 pm.

TACF Director of Restoration Sara Fern Fitzsimmons will be covering the basics of proper site selection, how to find the right spot for placement, as well as how to get them planted. We will discuss soil properties and other abiotic aspects which determine suitability of a site for American chestnut. The testing of those aspects, and the effects of those variables on tree growth and performance will also be covered.

Once a site has been selected, the next step is to properly prepare and plant the trees. They can be planted as seeds, bareroot seedlings, and containerized seedlings. Long-term success depends on getting the initial stages right.
