UMass Extension will hold a free Spotted Lanternfly Trapping Update webinar on August 31st from 10 to 11:30 am.

The webinar will provide an update on the invasive spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula; SLF) as well as trapping research and monitoring efforts from:

  • Dr. Joseph Elkinton and Dr. Jeremy Andersen, UMass Dept. of Environmental Conservation
  • Dr. Miriam Cooperband, Forest Pest Methods Laboratory USDA-APHIS-PPQ-CPHST
  • Tawny Simisky, UMass Extension’s Landscape, Nursery and Urban Forestry Program Entomologist
  • Dr. Jaime Pinero, UMass Extension’s Fruit Program and the Stockbridge School of Agriculture
  • To date, UMass researchers have not yet detected established spotted lanternfly populations at any of the locations they are monitoring in Massachusetts.
  • However, we need to remain vigilant because it is clear that this insect is an excellent hitchhiker and capable of moving great distances with our accidental help.
