Harvesting trees can be a daunting and often misunderstood activity. However, when forests are managed with thought and care, landowners can achieve many goals. Some of the benefits of forest management include improving habitat for songbirds and other wildlife, increasing forest resiliency, and restoring old forest characteristics.
Vermont Land Trust will hold a The Benefits of Forest Management for the Birds walk at the Pratt Refuge in Duxbury, VT on Thursday September 12th from 4:15 – 6:30 pm
Join VLT and Audubon Vermont’s Woods Wildlife and Warblers program staff at the Pratt Refuge in Duxbury, a birding hotspot and stopover for many migratory birds. We’ll visit an active forest management project where trees are being harvested to improve habitat for forest birds.
We’ll talk to the logger, forester and conservation biologists who designed and are implementing this project and demystify what it means to manage your forest for the birds.
