The Massachusetts Tree Farm Program will hold a Tree Farm Tour at the Burnham Family Tree Farm on Little Mohawk Road in Shelburne on Saturday, October 22nd, from 9:30 to 11:30 am.

The Burnham family has managed their 60 acre woodland for two generations, mostly using small woodlot equipment and methods.

The area being toured is part of a shelterwood cut (about 6 acres) started in Jan. 2022 and not yet quite complete.  Primary species removed are Red Oak and White Pine.

The tour will include demonstration of some unusual log and firewood handling methods and equipment.  Modern wood heat is also used to heat buildings on the premises.

Total walking distance for the tour will be around  a mile with about half of that on paved roadway. It can be a little muddy and there are some steep hillsides.

Directions:  Take Route 2 to Shelburne Center and turn on Little Mohawk Road.

Park at Fellowship Hall  (opposite the Fire Station) and walk up the road to the tour.

Rain date will be Sunday, October 23rd at the same time.
