200 Cedar Swamp Road
Monson
MA
The Atlantic White Cedar Swamp in Monson has been undergoing ecological restoration work led by the Monson Conservation Commission in collaboration with the Nipmuc tribe of Native Americans and with support from Opacum Land Trust.
Opacum Land Trust will hold a Walk at the Monson Cedar Swamp on Sunday, October 19th from 10 am to 1 pm
This walk will follow the Cedar Swamp Trail around the swamp. The trail is approximately 1.5-miles in length with a firm trail, and ends with a ¼-mile road walk back to the parking area. The majority of the trail is an easy walk, but expect some sections of uneven ground and roots. We will stop numerous times along the trail to examine the local plants and discuss the declining health of the cedar swamp and what Monson and the Nipmucs intend to do to restore the swamp to a more healthy and vigorous condition.
Participants should meet at 200 Cedar Swamp Road, Monson, MA at 10 am. Bring bug spray, water, and your favorite hiking stick!
For an after-hike refreshment try an ice cream cone at Westview Creamery,109 East Hill Road and take in the fall foliage view of Monson and across the Pioneer Valley to the Berkshires.
