Are there swamps, marshes, seasonal pools, or other wetlands in the forests you manage?
On May 18, New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association will host a Landowner Class titled Wetlands and Forestry: Optimizing the Benefits, a hands-on class with field work from 9 am to noon in Twin Mountain, New Hampshire.
This workshop will survey a variety of methods to sustain or enhance the ecological value of wetlands in a productive woodlot or timberland. Topics will include: road engineering, beaver management, water quality protection, and using knowledge of soils and forest types to plan harvests that create high-quality wildlife habitat.
Instructors will include:
- Ray Berthiaume, Harvest Planning and Operations Manager, Wagner Forest Management;
- John Lanier, Wildlife Habitat Management Consultant;
- Brendan Prusik, Forestry Field Specialist, UNH Cooperative Extension; and
- Rachel E. Dandeneau, Associate Professor of Environmental Science at White Mountains Community College.
Participants should meet at the Twin Mountain Gazebo at the intersection of Route 3 and Route 302 in Twin Mountain, New Hampshire
