James Wilson Kelly is a Private Consulting Forester based in Southwestern Massachusetts.  He has served on the State Forester Licensing Board (as Vice Chair), the Mount Washington Conservation Commission, the Sheffield Planning Board, and the Board of Directors for the Sheffield Land Trust.

He is currently the Chair of the Massachusetts Forest Alliance Forester’s Council, the Town of Sheffield Agricultural Commission (Treasurer), the Economic Development Committee, the Sheffield Land Trust Outreach Committee (Education Liaison), the Agricultural Education Advisory Committee, and the New Marlborough Land Preservation Trust Monitoring committee (Chairman).

James Wilson Kelly has provided comprehensive services in Forest Management for clients in eastern New York and western Massachusetts since 1982 having worked contracts with the Federal Government, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and several not-for-profit organizations beside his many private clients.  He grew up spending summers in the Berkshires working on a small dairy farm with considerable time spent in the outdoors. It is here in Sheffield that Jim now lives, and where he is part-owner of and manages the 315 acre Kelly Family Tree Farm and Orchard. He hopes to improve the forest habitat wherever he works while increasing the use of forest products to reduce dependency on fossil fuels.  As a landowner himself, he brings a very personal perspective to land management and believes that maintaining working forest landscapes is an important step in our goal of effective forest stewardship.
