Vermont Woodlands Associations, Vermont FPR and Fish and Wildlife, Ducks Unlimited (DU) and the Vermont Association of Wetland Science (VAWS) will hold a Woody Plant Identification Field Day at the Three Mile Bridge Wetland Restoration site in East Middlebury, (Nikitawtegawk Wildlife Management Area) pm Tuesday, July 28th, from 2 to 4 pm..

We will gather along the edge of the property and Creek Rd to start, where we will discuss the history of the land use and the tree planting project that Ducks Unlimited has established. From there we will venture into the field to learn about tree and shrub identification (including willow, Red Ozier Dogwood, Silky Dogwood, Viburnum and more).

On the way we’ll learn about DU’s management of nonnative species, use of monitoring wells to track hydrology, the definition of wetlands and what that means for tree planting, as well as other flood plain considerations.

This event includes walking on uneven and perhaps soggy ground. Please dress for the conditions and the weather, including tall boots.
