DCR’s Quabbin Watershed Forestry Program will hold an Upland Wildlife Habitat Restoration tour on Saturday, October 19th from 1 to 4 pm in New Salem.

The tour will visit the site of a recently completed harvest of a red pine plantation that is part of a larger area which has been designated as a “barrens focus area” in the most recent DWSP comprehensive land management plan. The harvest, set up by DCR forester Helen Johnson and DFW restoration ecologist Chris Buelow, includes some work to maintain barrens habitat features and prepare for the use of prescribed fire

Participants should meet at the DCR Field Office at the junction of Elm Street with Route 202 in New Salem. Sturdy shoes and long pants are recommended as are bug spray and tick repellent.
