Biomass is a remarkable renewable resource for heating in the Northeast.  This program is intended to help those considering biomass build a reasonable framework for further research.

The session will discuss how a variety of biomass heating appliances work, what they use for fuel and how it is graded or certified, what ranges of equipment are available in the Northeast today, and how you might decide what systems are best for applications in which you might have interest.

Biomass 101 Schedule:

Session 1.  How do biomass boilers and furnaces work and how clean are they?

  1. Chips
  2. Pellets, top fed, horizontally fed, underfed burners

Session 2.  What is appropriate fuel?

  1. Chip grading, variability
  2. Pellet manufacture and standards

Session 3.  What types of equipment are available in the Northeast?

  1. Cordwood
  2. Chips
  3. Pellets

Session 4.  How do you decide what is best for you?

  1. Chips or pellets
  2. Decisions among pellet boilers

Speakers are:

Scott Nichols, Tarm Biomass – Session 1
