Keeping Forests, the USDA Forest Service and Southern Regional Extension Forestry will hold a 5 hour Building Sustainably with Mass Timber Workshop on December 10th from 10 am to 3 pm EST.
Wood is the original sustainable building material and new developments in Mass Timber have created significant opportunities to expand its use! This workshop will explain why mass timber is good for building and sustainability as well as what types of wood buildings may be a good fit for different needs.
The use of wood plays a critical role in markets and in advancing climate change solutions. Private families or individuals own most of America’s forest resources. These privately-owned forests provide clean air and water and wildlife habitat.. There needs to be healthy, resilient, and sustainably-focused markets for traditional forest products.
This workshop will explain:
Why mass timber is a sustainable material
Which types of wood buildings fill different needs
How mass timber can be used for new and retrofitted public buildings
What architects and contractors need to know about designing and building with mass timber
The workshop ends with a Q&A Session with all of the speakers.
